Heading to the Yachting Capital of the World?

Just two weeks away, the Fort Lauderdale International Boat Show is reputed to be the largest consumer boat show in the world. With over 1,00 boats and 1,200 vendors across 7 locations, there’s a lot to be seen in just 5 short days.

SWITLIK Survival Products has been a product exhibitor for years at FLIBS. Our FLIBS-seasoned team is looking forward to another great show and has some tips for you to have an exciting and successful boat show as well as enjoying your time in Fort Lauderdale!

What are you looking forward to the most at this year’s show?
Being completely obsessed with boats and boating, at every boat show I go to I always look around for my own personal “best-in-show”. I always try to find a boat that seems best designed for its purpose and most practical for what it was designed to do. Buying a boat is always a tradeoff. Some boats are meant to fish deep water, some are meant to fish shallow water, some are meant to ride along the coast, some are meant to cruise around the world, some are meant to tow wakeboarders.  While there is no one single boat that can do everything on the water, every boat at FLIBS is designed for fun.

Any tips for first year show attendee?
Make an itinerary! There is so much to see there and it is really easy to miss or overlook something. Also, if you are in the market for a new boat or an important piece of equipment, do not be afraid to ask every question you can come up with. This is one of the premier shows in the marine industry and it is highly likely that you can have conversations with top sales managers and company executives about their products.

Outside of the show, what do you recommend doing in Fort Lauderdale?
Hop on a charter fishing boat for sure! This time of year, you can catch grouper, snapper, wahoo, mahi-mahi, sailfish, and more in the waters of Florida. The nightlife and culinary options are endless in the area as well. If you’re a seafood fan you need to track down or catch some fresh wahoo sushi. Grouper from anywhere and any way you want it cooked is always amazing in Florida. If you’re into the nightlife, round up a couple of buddies and order a fishbowl to share (yes, an adult beverage that is actually served in fishbowl) from Lulu’s Bait Shack, but be sure to enjoy it responsibly!

What are you looking forward to the most at this year’s show?
I look forward to seeing the wide variety of boats on display. There are huge yachts and small inflatables, and everything in between. I also like to see the new technologies – new electronics, lighting, radar, etc. As a fisherman, there are also multiple vendors selling the latest tackle and lures.

Any tips for first year show attendee?
Don’t get overwhelmed by the size of the show. Grab a map, and make a plan to see what you’re interested in first. Then, take the time to browse. Sarah-and-Paul.jpgYou’ll never know what you’ll come across that you never knew you needed.

Outside of the show, what do you recommend doing in Fort Lauderdale?
Take a boat tour of the intercoastal waterway, or book a fishing charter!

What are you looking forward to the most at this year’s show?
I hope to see the resilience of the boating industry in action. No hurricanes are going to stop the boaters!

Any tips for first year show attendee?
The Tents have AC. It’s good to start in the tents in the AM before the crowds build up midday. The docks are the place to be to see the big boats, but the action and the good stuff to buy is in the tents. If you plan on viewing boats – bring shoes that are easy to take on and off!

Outside of the show, what do you recommend doing in Fort Lauderdale?
Hit the beach.  The restaurants on Las Olas Blvd are the best but reservations fill up fast during the show.

SWITLIK Survival Products will be at Bahia Mar, in the Yellow Zone Marine Equipment Tent, Booth 422—stop by and meet the team! We will be featuring our man-overboard modules and life rafts in our booth.

There’s a lot to see and it can be difficult finding time to stop and talk with a vendor when they are also free. Remove that stress and pre-book a meeting time to ensure your opportunity to speak with a SWITLIK sales team manager.
