From early days to today's circumnavigation

After several attempts by a few countries, in 1924, the United States Army Air Force began and completed the world’s first circumnavigation. Totaling 175 days with over 60 stops, only one of the four planes that started the journey landed back in Seattle. From there, globetrotters began planning their individual record-breaking flights. Friedrich Karl von Koenig-Warthausen became the first to circumnavigate the globe solo between 1928 and 1929 and in 1931 Wiley Post set the record for fastest circumnavigation doing so in 8 days and then 2 years later, bested that record by a day, completing the journey in 7 days.

Transition from SOLAS to high-tech rafts

Following the Titanic disaster, several countries organized to improve the safety of the marine industry. The main objective of the SOLAS Convention is setting minimum standards for safety in the construction, equipment and operation of ships. Over time, the SOLAS Conventions met and revised safety standards, with major versions starting in 1960, 1974, 1988 and the most recent in 2015. The SOLAS Convention is considered one of the most important international treaties.

When purchasing a life vest for aircraft, a few factors should be considered when selecting the style of vest. First, for the pilot and co-pilot, the life vest should either be worn at all times or be able to be quickly donned, without interfering with flying the aircraft during an emergency.
